Mary Evelyn "Hedy" Hedrick

Mary Evelyn ""Hedy"" Hedrick, 95, passed away on April 6, 2015. She was born in Hattiesburg, MS to John Elliot Hedrick and Louisa Elizabeth Bryant and lived most of her life in Biloxi, MS. She was an avid fisherman and traveler who enjoyed her trips to Europe, Colorado and casinos in Las Vegas and Biloxi with her friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Elliot Hedrick and her sisters Grace King, Lillian Kellum and Martha Cooper. She is survived by her nephew John Kellum and her niece Kathy Causey (Pat), as well as numerous lifelong friends.
Hedy attended Mississippi Women's College and received her training in nursing at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans. She served in the Army Nursing Corps from June 1944 to December 1946 at Wm. Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso, TX where she attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and received the Victory Medal for WWII. Hedy spent the majority of her career at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Biloxi, MS where she served as Head Nurse of the tuberculosis ward.
Her family and friends are grateful for the support and companionship provided by her kind , compassionate caregivers Lea Anthony, Teri Setnikar, Sandy Stockstill and Meaurice Tingle.
Visitation will be held at the Riemann Funeral Home at 274 Beauvoir Rd. at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17 with military burial to follow at the Biloxi National Cemetery 400 Veterans Avenue at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southern Care Hospice, 8195A Woolmarket Rd., Biloxi, MS, 39532 or the charity of your choice.
