Mary Lu Platts Gum, 78, of Gulfport died Wednesday, September 13, 2006 in Gulfport after a long illness.
Mrs. Gum was a native of Gulfport and graduated from Gulfport High School in 1946. She traveled with her husband while serving in the U.S. Force to various bases in the country and also to France. After he retired in 1972, she and her family returned to Gulfport to settle down. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur, Sr. and Dorothy Platts; sisters: Dorothy Blevins, Florence Bass, Carrie Jane Rester, and Betty Jo Roberson; and 2 brothers, Kenneth Platts, and Fred Platts, Sr.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Gum, Gulfport; 2 sons: Gary (Lisa) Gum, Gulfport and Donald (Jan) Gum, Biloxi; 1 brother, Arthur, (Mary Kate) Platts, Jr., Gulfport; grandchildren, Megan Michelle Gum, Ashley Lauren Gum, Ashly Nicole Martin, Timothy Ludlow, and Beth Ludlow.
Visitation will be Friday, September 15, 2006 from 10:30 - 11:30 am at Trinity United Methodist Church, Lawson Ave., Gulfport. The funeral service will be at 11:30 am in the church sanctuary.
Interment will be in Biloxi National Cemetery.
