Mary Freeman

Mary Cherrell Freeman, age 49, of Gulfport, MS, passed away Friday, March 18, 2022, at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, MS.

She was preceded in death by her fathers, Charles Harvey Yancey, and Thomas William Freeman; and her mother, Mary Jane Davis.

Cherrell is survived by her daughter, Cassidy Jones (Atlas); her two grandchildren, Cameron Thomas and Alaina Thomas; her  brothers, Travis Freeman (Lindsey), Shawn Yancey (Sarah), Chase Yancey and Chad Yancey; her sisters, Stephanie Raines, Mandy Nunnery (Bill) and Kristina Lee (Chris); and her best friends, Kimmie, Hope, Libby, April, Tonya, Shae, Nola and Shun.

Mary Cherrell Freeman was born in Columbia, MS on April 3, 1972, to the late Mary Jane Davis and late Charles Harvey Yancey. Mary, who went by Cherrell, was legally adopted by the late Thomas William Freeman at the age of two. She graduated from Gulfport High School in the Class of 1991. Cherrell had her first and only child, Cassidy Marie Jones on December 19, 1995.  She spent several years working for IGT (International Gaming Technology) and Gulf Coast Safety Counsel as an administrative assistant; she also held a certification for cosmetology during this time.

Cherrell spent her life dedicated to providing the best life possible for her daughter and grandchildren. She enjoyed getting together with her friends and family when she had the time. If she wasn’t giving her heart to her daughter and grandchildren, she was spreading it to her closest friends that were very dear to her. Cherrell enjoyed music, especially country music and she was also very dedicated to animals during her life, especially her two dogs, Bella, and Presley that she loved dearly.

I love you Moma, to the moon and back over, and over.

A visitation will be held 1-2 pm, Wednesday, March 23, 2022, Riemann Family Funeral Homes in Gulfport, MS. A funeral service will be held after the visitation at 2pm. Interment will be at Floral Hills Cemetery in Gulfport, MS.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
