Mary Juanita Cuevas, 72, of Lizana, died on Monday, April 28, 2008 in Lizana.
She was a lifelong resident of Lizana and retired in 1988 from the Harrison County School District, where she was a cafeteria worker for more than ten years at Lyman Elementary School. Many years earlier, she worked for Dr. Oney C. Raines, as an LPN, and later, the Colonial Bakery, where she worked as a bookkeeper. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Lizana.
She assisted many years in the kitchen of the annual St. Ann's Church bazaar, had been a lector, a catechism teacher, and member of the Altar Society. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, going to church, sunsets, nature, and spending time with Curvis, her husband of 50 years. Her smile was a gift to everyone she met and will be missed by everyone who knew her, friend, family, and stranger alike.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curvis James Cuevas; her parents, James A. & Elsie Inez Solley Lowrey, a sister, Ellen Cox, and her brother, Troy E. Lowery.
She is survived by her son, Darryl Luke Cuevas of Gulfport, and her sister, Bonnie J. Arnold of Bedford, VA.
A special word of thanks to Memorial Hospice and to Mrs. Ruby Threadgill, and Ms. Ethelina Whitfield, two angels God sent to provide much loving care and support.
