Mary F. Carter, 86, of Gulfport, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2020.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dora Fay Garland-Miller; father, Gordon Garland; brother, Jerry Garland; and her son, Kenneth Carter.
Suvivors include her 3 children, Keith R. Carter (Mauretta), Kelley R. Carter and Kristie R. Carter; her siblings, Sharlene Whitlock, Louise Bowers and Lanier Kirby; her grandchildren, Kurtis Emmert (Amanda), Destin Fessenden, Janay Carter, Cody Carter (Erica), Connor Carter, and Joanna Carter; great-grandchildren, Kylie Lynn and Kelsie; and cousin, Charles Pace.
Mrs. Carter was a native of Martin, Georgie and a resident of Gulfport. She served in the American Red Cross as the Assistant Director for the military during Desert Shield and Desert Storm Campaigns.She retired after 26 years in February 1997. She served overseas (Kuwait, Germany, Saudia Arabia and Bahrain) and stateside (Keesler AFB, CB Base, and Homestead, FL and Fort Knox). She provided humanitarian relief to military members and family during disasters, emergencies and hardships.
She enjoyed reading, sewing, going for walks, gardening, and working in her yard and painting. Mary was always a hard-working lady. She was a loving sister, aunt, mother, grandma and great-grandma. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Mary received numerous awards of appreciation and achievements from the American Red Cross. The family would prefer contributions be made on Mary's behalf to the American Red Cross
