Mary Lou Phillips Barber, age 95 of Gulfport, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018.
She was the oldest of three children,born to her late parents, Ellie Mae Kemp Phillips and William R. Phillips, Sr. Born on March 5, 1923, in Crystal Springs, MS, she graduated from Gallman High, and soon married Woodrow Wilson Barber of Copiah Co., MS, on July 8, 1940. Mary was a former member of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Crystal Springs, MS, and was a current member of Mississippi City United Methodist Church in Gulfport. Mary was a member of the Ester Circle and the Long Beach Chapter No. 51 Order of the Eastern Star. After retiring from Lemer's Department Store,she worked for her son, Dennis at Pro Body Shop Supplies until the age of 65.
She loved walking and was a former member of the Stride Rite Walking Club at Edgewater Mall. Mary enjoyed fishing and tending to her beautiful rose garden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Barber; her parents, Ellie Mae Kemp Phillips and William R. Phillips, Sr.; one brother, William Phillips, Jr.; and one sister, Bernice Lyles.
Mary is survived by her three children, Dorothy Louise Barber Patterson (Michael), Ray D. Barber (Marilyn), and Dennis Barber (Pattie); her daughter in law, Teresa Barber; twelve grandchildren, Deborah, Stewart, Tish, Henry, Wilson, Christine, Michael, Carrie, Dennis Jr., Jennifer, Heather, and Amy; twenty-one great grandchildren; and numerous great great grandchildren.

The funeral service is at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Mississippi United Methodist Church, 219 Courthouse Rd., Gulfport, MS, with a visitation for family and friends from 10:00 AM until the service. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
