Martin Lawrence Treffner, died on Saturday April 22, 2006 in Gulfport, after battling cancer. He was 69 years young.
He was born on March 7, 1937 and grew up in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, where he graduated high school in 1955. Marty came to the Coast in 1970 with the United States Navy. He retired from the Seabees in 1981, with 26 years of service and several tours of service in Vietnam. He decided to make the Mississippi Gulf Coast his home, because he loved the climate and the people. He was an avid fisherman and was called """"Flounder Man"""" by several.
Mr. Treffner is preceded in death by his parents; Catherine and Walter Treffner, his brother; Richard, daughter; Caryn Treffner, and mother-in-law; Estelle Stubblefield.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife, of 40 years, Carla Treffner; his daughter, Lisa and fiancAÌ©, Jim Peek; his sister, Arlene Schmidt; his niece; Peggy Hough and her husband Mike, his nephew; John Schmidt, as well as his extended family, Anna and Sassy Mellen; many friends and his beloved family pet, Bridget.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 from 6:30-8:00pm at Gulf Coast Funeral Homes, Inc., Three Rivers Road Chapel, Gulfport. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at 11:00am at Long Beach City Cemetery. An online guestbook may be signed at www.gulfcoastfh.com.
