Martin Joseph Gendron, age 79 and a resident of Gulfport, died on Thursday, May 13, 2010, in Gulfport.
Mr. Gendron graduated from Perkinston Jr. College and Louisiana State University with a BS Degree in English and PE, Master's and Specialist Degree in school administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.
He served in the Korean War as a cryptographer at the Pentagon. He then worked in the Gulfport School District for 33 years as a teacher, assistant principal, Principal of West Junior High, and Principal of Gulfport High School, Director of Special Education Services, and District Administrative Assistant of Staff Development.
He was a member of the Mississippi Staff Development Council, National Council of Schools, National Staff Development Council, Gulf Coast Education Instructional Consortium, Phi Delta Kappa, National Association of School Administrators, and the Perksters.
His great love was his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved LSU football games, fishing, computer graphics, and woodworking. He was a unique, talented, loyal, and caring man who has made a difference in the lives of many more students than he signed diplomas for. He was a gift to his family and all the students of Gulfport.
Mr. Gendron was preceded in death by his parents, Pierre & Rena Martin Gendron and his first wife, Patsy Gendron.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Gendron of Gulfport; his sister, Dot Gaubert of Luling, LA; his brother, Louis Gendron of Hahnville, LA; his children, Marlin (Megan) Gendron of Pass Christian, Kathy Gendron of Ocean Springs, Robbie (Anita) Gendron of Hurley, and Laura Cuevas of Long Beach; his step children, Panda Endris of Saugas, CA and Darren (Mona) Endris of Biloxi; 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gulfport, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.
