Martha Kornman Atherton

Martha A. “Martee” Kornman Atherton, age 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, January 19, 2024, in Fort Worth, TX.

Born on January 17, 1945, and raised in Biloxi, Martha had been a resident of Fort Worth, TX since 2005. A devout Catholic and deeply religious, she did her very best to help people in any way possible. She loved meeting new people and learning about them, their lives, and their families. Her sunny disposition and easy smile immediately put people at ease and endeared her to everyone she met. She was a voracious reader and an avid embroiderer, a hobby she had recently rekindled.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Ollie Kornman of Biloxi, and sister Carolyn Znachko of Biloxi.

She is survived by her beloved son, Christian, and his wife, Leigh Ann Atherton of Biloxi; 6 grandchildren, Christen Atherton of Vancleave, Ashlyn Atherton of Long Beach, Alysha Atherton of California, Claire Foster-Young of Gulfport, Ethan Foster of Gulfport, and Megan Foster of Newport News, VA; 1 great-grandson, Aiden Atherton of Biloxi; 2 sisters, Joenelle Parker and Darleen Poulos, both of Biloxi; and 1 brother, Jacob Kornman of Fort Worth, TX.

Christian and Leigh Ann wish to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation to Linda and Michael Moore of Fort Worth, TX for the love and support extended to Martha during her years in Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024, with visitation from 10 - 11 a.m. at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Rd., Biloxi, MS. Entombment will follow at Southern Memorial Park Mausoleum.
