Marshall Lamar Jordan

February 22, 1928 — August 24, 2012

Marshall Lamar Jordan, Jr. passed away Friday, August 24, 2012 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Lamar was born February 22, 1928 in Summit, MS to Ruth (Bickham) and Marshall Lamar Jordan. Mr. Jordan was proud to be an Eagle Scout and after completing his degree in Forestry,
he came to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to work for the forestry department. Due to cut backs, he went to work for a short period with Bell Telephone and then found his niche at Keesler AFB as an instructor and later as Supervisor in Ground Radar. After some 50 years, he retired to devote time to his hobbies.
Lamar liked to sing in the choir, play the piano, brew wine, preserve all kinds of fruits, bake pies for his friends but most of all his passion was for Duplicate Bridge. He was a director and served as President of Unit 180 in Gulfport, He was a generous person who gave freely of his time and treasure.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Betty Sue (Jerry) Davis, and his brother, Richard Jordan. He is survived by his daughter, Anastacia (Donny) Broussard, his son, Daniel Jordan, his sisters, Mary Ruth (Harry) Joyner, Colorado Springs, CO, Frances (Jerry) Landry, Hammond, LA, Lorraine (Bill) Jordan, Portland, OR, many nieces and nephews, and his former wife, Myrna Jordan.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank Brenda Chapman and her staff at Chapman Oaks for the wonderful care given to Lamar during the past two years. We also thank Hospice Advantage for their care these last few weeks.
As per Lamar's request, there will be no funeral as he wished to be cremated. It was his wish that in lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in his honor to the American Diabetes Association, 350 W. Woodrow Wilson Dr., Suite 2470, Jackson, MS 39213. There will be a brief memorial service Thursday, September 6, 2012, at 5 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Long Beach with visitation one hour before the service. The family will gather for a celebration of Lamar's life at a later date.
