Mark Stafford Green

Mark Stafford Green, age 61 of Gulfport, MS, passed on September 16, 2023.

Mark was born on October 20, 1961, in Mobile, Alabama to Marvin and Sammy Green. Early in life he moved with his family to Gulfport, MS and graduated from Harrison Central High School in 1979.

He was a gifted athlete; Mark was a member of his high school basketball team. He also received a basketball scholarship to Belhaven College and Patrick Henry College.

Mark graduated from Phillips College and began his career in retail business in Dallas, Texas and later as a manager of restaurants in Kansas City, Kansas. He eventually returned to Gulfport and worked as a store director for Academy Sports for eighteen years.

Mark was a compassionate and giving friend to all. He was an avid supporter of local missions at his church, First Baptist Church of Lyman and throughout his community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Sammy Green.

Mark is survived by his son, Zachary Green (Benjamin) of Oklahoma City; his two sisters, Alice Green O'Neal (John) of Wiggins and Marsha Green King (Jim) of Hattiesburg as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Lyman from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, funeral service to follow at 11:00AM. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Petal, MS at 2:30PM.
