Marjorie Lee “Mrs. Margie” Bittner, age 73, of Long Beach, passed away on February 4, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her father, Carl F. Williams; her mother, Willie I. Cuevas; and 2 brothers, Carl F. “Nickie” Williams, Jr. and Kim W. Williams.
Mrs. Bittner is survived by her husband of almost 55 years, Donald John Bittner; 2 daughters, Shawn (Mark) Barlow and Renee (Sean) Wynn; a brother, Wesley M. Williams; 3 grandchildren, Devin Byrd, Owen Barlow, and Jax Wynn; and many other relatives and friends.
In her early years, Margie worked for Gryder's shoe store in downtown Gulfport before finding her passion of working with children. After moving on from Gryder's, she helped numerous local families by keeping their children in her family home for more than a decade. She then started with Loving Care Learning Center, a Montessori school, for several years before becoming a nanny for a local family. She then finished out her career as a Teaching Assistant caring for the infants and toddlers at Harrison County Child Development Center where she later retired in 2017.
Margie loved tending to her flower beds and watching the birds in the backyard. She enjoyed going to lunch with her class of 1970, but most of all, she enjoyed being "Nana" to her three grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Long Beach.
The family would like to thank Margie's Oncologist Dr. Milind M. Javle and all of her medical team at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX as well as Dr. Allison Wall and all of her wonderful nurses in the chemo lab here at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, MS. Without this help, we would not have had the wonderful 12 1/2 years with her, as she fought her courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 10 am - 12 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 E Beach Blvd, Long Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 pm in the church. A private interment for the family will be immediately following the mass in Long Beach City Cemetery.
The Riemann Family Funeral Home, Long Beach, is serving the family.
