Marie Taylor

Marie D. Taylor, born Nan Marie Dodd on July 6, 1929, in Boston, AL, went home to be with the Lord at sunrise on the 5th day of January 2012.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ira and Pauline Dodd, her husband of 36 years, James C. Taylor, Sr. and sister Dorothy Porter.
She is survived by her brothers Darryl, (wife Ruth), Dodd of Godfrey, IL, and Jack (wife Sue) Dodd of Springfield, MO, her sister Janet (husband Merrill) Hafner and Holts Summit, MO. She is also survived by her sons, Joel Todd Taylor, Sr. (Lisa) of Ocean Springs, MS, James Christopher Taylor, Jr. of Gulfport, MS, Michael William Gray of Gulfport, MS and Dennis Wayne Gray of Oklahoma, her daughters Jamie (husband Matt) Luttell of Waveland, MS, Judith Tyrone of Cape Girardeau, MO and Paula Gray of Michigan. She is also survived by 11 Grandchildren, 6 Great-Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Marie came to know Christ as her Savior in 1969 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Gulfport, MS and served Him in many ways, including singing in her church choir, teaching a senior youth Sunday School class, and serving in every capacity of the church that was asked of her. As a mother she did her best to teach her children the ways of the Lord.
Marie worked for the Gulfport City Schools as a cafeteria employee for over twenty years, serving most of her time at Gulfport High School, from which she retired.
She spent her final years as a member of the First Baptist Church of D'Iberville, MS under the preaching of Rev. O.W. Meyers, and then as a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Orange, TX under the preaching of her son, Rev. Todd Taylor.
It can be said that she loved the Lord, and like Him, she never met anyone that she would call an enemy and tried to love all that she met. She was a good friend to a great many people who will miss her dearly.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 9, 2012 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd, Gulfport. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens, Long Beach.
