Long Beach

Mari Asuncion Bactad, age 69, of Long Beach, passed away on October 15, 2021, in Gulfport, MS.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Manual Bactad; her parents, Medardo and Carmen Aguilar; and her siblings, Allen Aguilar, Visildro Aguilar, and Medardo Aguilar Jr.

Mari is survived by her children and their spouses: Anthony and Sarah Bactad, Ashley and Ben Pounds, and Tamara and Seth Vincent; her siblings and their spouses: Gina Aguilar, George and Virgie Aguilar, Bob and May Aguilar, and Claravie Doños; her grandchildren: Lily and Nick Vincent; and other relatives and friends.

She was a native of Zamboanga City, Philippines and was a longtime resident of Long Beach, MS.  She earned a Bachelor of Nursing degree and was employed at as a PRN at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport.  Mari enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling.  She was a member of the Filipino-American Association and St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Long Beach.

We would like to thank everyone who lovingly cared for my mom during this difficult time. No amount of words can express our appreciation for the meals, visits, and texts that our mother received.

We’d also like to thank the wonderful staff at Canon Hospice and Kare-In Home as well as Dr. Allison Wall and the oncology staff at Memorial Hospital.

Our mother loved taking care of people and it has been a comfort knowing she touched so many lives.

A visitation will be on Thursday, October 21, 2021, from 5 - 6 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 E Beach Blvd, Long Beach.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 6 pm in the church.  A graveside service will be held at 9 am Friday in Biloxi National cemetery.

The RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Long Beach, is serving the family.
