Margaret Horcher Penny, 86, of Largo, passed away Jan.16, 2011. She died peacefully at Hospice House Woodside surrounded by her family. Born in Wheeling, WV, she moved to Florida in 1958 from Lake Charles, LA. She graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in English and was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority, as well as Clearwater Pan-Hellenic, Clearwater-Dunedin Junior League, Clearwater Yacht Club, Shipwatch Yacht and Tennis Club, Retired Naval Officer Wives Club of St. Petersburg and the Republican Party of Florida. Margaret was a teacher at Disston Junior High before deciding to become a stay-at-home wife and mother. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, John H. Penny Sr.; sons, Dr. John ""Jack"" H. Penny Jr. and wife, Ann and James ""Jay"" William Penny and wife, Sharon; daughter, Margaret Jane Gonnering and husband, Jim; brother and sister-in-law, George and Dot Horcher; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces; 3 nephews; as well as many great-nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, Jan 21 from 4-6 pm at Moss Feaster Serenity Gardens, 727-562-2080. Funeral service will be Saturday, Jan 22 at 11 am at Faith Presbyterian Church in Seminole. Burial will be in the Penny family plot in Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Margaret's name to Suncoast Hospice.
