Mamie Lois Thompson Huffman of Gulfport, MS went to meet her Maker on Sunday, November 3rd, 2013, at the age of 81 years. Lois, as she was known by her family and friends, was born in McCool, MS, traveled throughout many States and to Spain as a military wife for many years, residing in over 67 different homes during her lifetime, and settled in Gulfport in 1965. She was a strong and dedicated military wife, raising five children and meeting many new friends, many of whom she continued to correspond with over the years until her eyesight and physical weakness restrained her from writing. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, although she seldom attended in her later years due to physical ailments. She loved to bake, quilt, crochet, knit, sew, and spend time with grandchildren and great-grands.
Lois was predeceased by her husband, Henry A. Huffman, Jr.; her parents, Davis M. and Mamie Edith Simpson Thompson; two sisters, Lillie Dee Thompson Kerr and Edna Ruth Thompson; and two brothers, Ira M. Thompson and Ralph B. Thompson. She is survived by her children: Dorothy Fiorentino of Goldsboro, NC; Ruth Dumas and husband Frank of Gulfport, MS; Beverly Wechsler of Hammonton, NJ; Richard Huffman of Pahala, HI; and Stuart Huffman and wife Ginger of Gulfport, MS; grandchildren: Dana Fiorentino, Stacy Dunevant, Jasen Onasch, Brett Onasch, Erin Onasch Smith and husband Blake, Jared Huffman, Renee Huffman Price and husband Robbie, Whitney Daniel Lofton and husband Chip, William Daniel, and Tanner Huffman; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Lucy Thompson Fowler of Kosciusko, MS, Edith Mae Thompson Bowie of Madison, MS, Thelma Thompson Mitchell of McCool, MS, Linda Thompson Rone of Kosciusko, MS, Janice Thompson McAdams of McCool, MS, and a brother, Davis M. Thompson, Jr. of Kosciusko, MS.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12 Noon on Friday, November 8, 2013 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, MS. The Funeral Service will follow at 12 Noon in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Avenue, Biloxi, MS.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Akula Foundation, a non-profit agency of Canon Hospice of Gulfport, MS.
