Malcolm McAlpin

Malcolm "Mac" McAlpin, Jr. age 88, of Gulfport, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017.
Mr. McAlpin was born to Malcolm and Alice Elizabeth Horr McAlpin. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and subsequently moved to Louisiana where he met his loving wife. They married there on June 27, 1953 and moved to Natchez before moving to the coast to work with the Firestone Company. He opened his own tire company, Discount Tire Center, in 1963. Mac was a member of Burton Memorial United Methodist Church where he served as youth Sunday School teacher and served on the on the Zoning and Appeals Board for the City of Gulfport. In his spare time, Mac was an avid reader.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Carol McAlpin McClanahan, Emily McAlpin Stedt, Betsy McAlpin Moniz, Richard McAlpin, Robert McAlpin, and James McAlpin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Doris Thompson McAlpin of Gulfport; sons, Malcolm McAlpin, III (Marsha) of Houston, TX, and Michael Thomas McAlpin (Deirdre) of Ramstein, Germany; 5 grandchildren, Ryan McAlpin (Annette), Nicholas McAlpin, Sara McAlpin Lott (Connor), Jennifer McAlpin, and Erin McAlpin; 4 great grandchildren, Zachary, Timothy, Ashton, and Madison McAlpin.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, at 2:00 p.m. Friends may visit one hour prior. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery with military honors rendered by the U.S. Navy.
