Madeline was born June 12, 1934, in Chapel’s Cove Point, Newfoundland. In 1954 she married John “Irish” Fleming, they were married for 49 years. She was a devoted military wife, giving her the opportunity to see the world not only Newfoundland but Morocco, Italy, Gibraltar, Scotland, and many state side duty stations.
She was a devoted Catholic. She loved the Atlanta Braves and gardening. She grew not only flowers but tomatoes, cabbage, and green peppers. She baked the best bread and knit blankets for her family. Her famous spaghetti sauce was known to anyone who visited & she took pride in all of her cooking. She enjoyed reading the Downhome, listening to George Jones on her Newfie music.
Madeline was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She had a uniquely unfiltered sense of humor, making everyone around her laugh, living life to the fullest.
She was a proud Newfoundlander/American who never knew a stranger and told you like it was with no malice. She will be extremely missed.
The family would like to thank the staff of Kare in Home for their devotion to our mother, as well as Major Tiffany Byrd, M.D., and crazy lady. We would like to also send a special thanks to Rick Whitmer for his care, devotion, and love to her.
