Mable Angelina Dauro Skellie, age 91, of Long Beach, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2019.
Mrs. Skellie was born November 9, 1927 to Joseph and Virginia Dauro on Pineville Road in Long Beach.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Skellie, Sr.; her parents; her siblings, James and Harry Dauro; and her great granddaughter, Sophie Arias.
She is survived by her children, Billy Skellie (Pat), Ronnie Skellie (Pat), Marilyn VanCourt (Tony), and Barry Skellie; her grandchildren, Griff Skellie (Monica), Ashley Skellie, R.J. Skellie (Dana), Anthony VanCourt, Michael VanCourt, Dana Jeffreys, Gigi Davis; her great grandchildren, Alex Skellie, Taylor Skellie, Kai VanCourt, Landon VanCourt, Dillon Myers, Seldon Davis, Rae Davis, Javier Arias, and Dillon Skellie.
She attended St. Thomas School and Long Beach High School. Her first jobs were at F.W. Woolworth's, Rosenblum's, and United Gas Corporation. She graduated early from Perkinston Agriculture High School in 1945. She married William Skellie, her high school sweetheart, when he returned from serving in the Navy during World War II. She helped run the Skellie grocery business until 1971. She worked for the Holder family in their finance business in Gulfport, went back to business school, and retired as secretary to the Director of the South Mississippi Regional Center.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Skellie was very devoted to her community and church. Along with working and raising a family she found time to be a Girl Scout leader, a founding member of Long Beach Carnival Association, and served on the Recreation Commission. She was actively involved in her children's education at St. Thomas and Long Beach schools. She was a great source of early Long Beach history and a charter member of the Long Beach Historical Society where she served as president and received numerous awards for her contributions. Mrs. Skellie also supported William when he served as Alderman and Mayor of Long Beach. After retirement she volunteered at Memorial Hospital, the Long Beach Food Pantry, and St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Mrs. Skellie loved the Lord and her church. She was active her entire life at St. Thomas serving on the Altar Society, as an early Parish Council member and CCD teacher.
Her family would like to thank Mary Gillen and Ginny Miner for their loving care.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 18, 2019, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Long Beach, from 9:00-11:00 am.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am.
Burial will be in Long Beach City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, c/o St. Thomas Catholic Church, Long Beach.
