Lynda Lou Perez was born in the Republic of Panama on June 20, 1945 to the late Pauline Strange Perez and Alejandro Perez. Upon her birth, the nurses exclaimed "que linda!" a Spanish phrase which means "how lovely". Her mother thus named her Lynda. Her childhood was spent in Panama, and she moved to McComb, MS with her mother and brother as she entered her teenage years. She graduated from McComb High School in 1963 and then attended Mississippi State University where she earned a degree in English and Spanish. She went on to earn her master's degree in education from Mississippi State University. Lynda taught English and Spanish at both St. Stanislaus High School and Bay High School until she retired. Her students recall with fondness that she was both a kind teacher and a thorough teacher.
Lynda loved attending her boys' athletic events. She and her husband, Ray traveled countless miles to watch baseball, basketball, soccer, and football games. She also loved animals, welcoming dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, and fish into her home. She once nursed a squirrel back to health before releasing it back into the wild. She loved to travel, especially to her native Panama. She especially enjoyed reading, and became a familiar face at the Long Beach Public Library. Most of all, Lynda loved her grandchildren and took great delight when surrounded by them.
