Lyman ""Jack"" Holland, age 74, of Gulfport, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011.
Mr. Holland, as a young boy, worked on his dad's fishing boat. At the age of 16, he joined the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War, and he went on to become a drill sergeant. After serving in the Army, he worked as a Pipefitter. He then owned his own business, P & J Janitorial, for 25 years. He was of the Christian faith.
Mr. Holland was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Thompson; father, Taft Holland; son, Jesse Holland; grandson, Griffin Jenning; and sister, Debbie Holland.
Survivors incluce his wife of 31 years, Pauline Latimer Holland; four children, Jeff Holland, Janet Holland, Jackson Holland and Melissa Holland; 7 siblings, Mary A. Williams, Larry Holland, Sharon Holland, Edwin Holland, Janet Thompson of Memphis, Gail Davenport and Leroy Thompson; 8 grandchildren, including River Jennings of Holdenville, OK; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 16 at Antioch Baptist Church in Long Beach. Burial will be private at Evergreen Cemetery.
