Lydia Mary Salloum Werby, age 67, of Gulfport, died on Friday, January 15, 2010 in Gulfport.
Mrs. Werby was born to Lydia Antoon Salloum and Mitchell S. Salloum on May 27, 1942. She graduated from Gulfport High School in 1959. She received an AA Degree from Stephens College in Columbia, MO in 1961 and a BA Degree in Political Science in 1963 from University of Mississippi. She taught in Gulfport Public Schools and at St. John High School in Gulfport.
She served on the staff of Congressman Larkin Smith 1988-89, and the staff of Senator Trent Lott 1997-2006. Mrs. Werby married in 1967 to Gibran """"Ron"""" Werby Sr. She was Queen Ixolib of Gulf Coast Carnival Association in 1967 and was a member of The Revelers of Gulfport. She was appointed as a commissioner on the Planning and Zoning Board from 1977-1984 and served on the Board of Directors of the Gulf Coast Carnival Association. She was a member of the Gulfport Yacht Club and St. James Catholic Church.
Mrs. Werby was preceded in death by her parents, Lydia and Mitchell Salloum and step-mother Mary Catherine Salloum.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ron; daughters Helen and Mary (Dax Alexander); son Gibran Werby, Jr. (Meghan); sister Isabell Salloum Haggar (Joe); brother, Mitchell Salloum Jr; five grandchildren, and numerous family members that she loved very much.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 18, 2010, at St. James Catholic Church, Gulfport, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit at the church two hours prior to Mass. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
