Mr. Luther Thomas “Tom” Butler, age 89, of Helena, passed away on July 11, 2024, in Fairhope.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Bobbie Sue Dykes Butler; his parents, Luther Butler and Winnie Thelma Butler; a sister, Flora Ann Kelley; and 2 grandsons, Matt Roberts and Dustin Butler.

Mr. Butler is survived by his children: Ramona (Darrell) Roberts, Tommie Jean (Rayner) Betancourt, Gordon (Patricia) Butler, Ricky Butler, and Mitchell Butler; his sister, Betty (ted) Hickman; his grandchildren: Darrell (Nicole) Roberts II, Jeremy Ryals, Penny (Enoch) Capps, Lacy (Roger) Zavala, Latosha (Aslam) Wilson, and Ethan Butler; his great-grandchildren: Madison, Reece, and Matthew Roberts, Lauren (Will) Reeves, Luke White, Landon White, Jerica Debrow, Jadyn (Julius) Blackston, Jada Rascon, Jared Rascon, Trevor Zavala, Brayden Martinez, Isabella and Jarissa Martinez, Jenna Laquette, and Jeremiah Ryals (Lacy) Debrow; his great-great-grandchildren: William Reeves Jr, Jace Debrow, and Jaelyn Blackston; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Daddy was retired from Halter Marine and was an electrician by trade. He was a simple man that enjoyed the small pleasures in life. He loved his children, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was an avid reader and read every western story written by Louis L’Amour and watching every old western movie. He loved crossword puzzles and several people would save their magazines with puzzles to bless him with them. His talent for crocheting “dish rags” and scarves and giving them away blessed many people through the years. He enjoyed being active with the Senior Citizens in Pascagoula before moving to Fairhope.

He enjoyed watching football and baseball games along with the Grand Ole Opry. He loved to share riddles and brain teasers with family and friends and would enjoy a good belly laugh when he could trip anyone up with “ain’t that right, Fonda?”

After he moved to Fairhope, he looked forward to Wednesday morning breakfast with his son-in-law, Darrell. He was a good and honest man that cared deeply for his family and provided for them as best he could.
