MSgt. Luther Paul Burns, Jr., USAF Ret., age 86 of Gulfport, passed away at his home on Friday, July 23, 2021. He was born in Morgantown, WV, on July 19, 1935 to Luther P. Burns, Sr. and Margaret E. Jackson Burns.
Luther served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 until 1956 and in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 until his retirement in 1975. He fought in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He then worked for the WV Department of Highways until his second retirement in 1995.
He was a member of the VFW, Moose Lodge, and several bowling leagues.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers, Kenneth, Bob, and Arnold; and his sister, Doris Bishop.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle Burns; his son, Paul Burns (Ginger); his daughters, Robin Costello (Fred) and Shirley Cummings (Keith); his three sisters, Bonnie Fields of Masontown, WV, Maxine Bennett of Morgantown, WV, and Barbara Haseleu of Morgantown, WV; his special friends, Dick and Joan Ritenour of Oriskany Falls, NY; 9 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Biloxi National Cemetery.
