Lula Mae Sides, 79, of Long Beach passed away at home surrounded by family and her loving pups on Thursday May 24, 2012. Lula was born in Lando, South Carolina on July 1, 1932 and she graduated from Louisville High School in Richburg, SC.
She was married to Navy Chief Art Sides and they traveled extensively with the Navy during his career. They returned to Lancaster, SC after Art retired from the Navy. She spent the last eight years as a resident of Long Beach, MS living close to her daughter at Live Oak Farms. She loved being outdoors, feeding her geese, birds, and gardening. She was also known by many as the blueberry lady. Her closest companion was her beloved pug, Snapper; and grandpugs Forrest and Dusty Blue.
She was the last of 14 children of Eller and William Ramsey. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Frances Marchette and son-in-law CAPT Louis Marchette, USN retired. Lula had numerous extended family including Debra Sides Armitage of Augusta, Georgia; and Pat Burris of Rock Hill, SC.
A memorial service will be held at 5 PM on Monday, June 4th at Pineville Presbyterian Church on Menge Avenue in Pass Christian. Interment will be in Lando, SC.
She was an active member of Pineville Presbyterian Church in Pass Christian, MS. In lieu of flowers donations to Pineville Presbyterian Church is requested.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach, assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
