Lucile Ely Smith, passed away October 26, 2007. She was born in 1920 at Stockham, Nebraska, and attended Stockham Elementary School. she moved to Aurora, Nebraska, to attend high school. she graduated from Doane College, Crete, Nebraska in 1941. She married Howard Smith in 1944. Following Howard's military service, they lived in Belleville, Illinois, and then moved to Gulfport.
Lucille was a Cub Scout den mother for her three sons and actively supported their scouting activities as they advanced in Boy Scouts. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Handsboro Chapter 347. Lucile was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was the first woman Elder elected to serve in the church, and served several three-year terms. She was an Honorary Life Member of the Women of the Church, Presbyterian Church, USA and served four separate terms as president of the Women of the Church, the first being 1963 to 1965 and the fourth from 1995 to 1997. She was active in church circles and was often asked to give the lesson. She was an active contributor to the monthly church newsletter, and attended the weekly prayer group to pray for the church members and friends. Lucile was also the recipient of the Book of Golden Deeds given by the Exchange Club of Gulfport.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Agnes Ely of Aurora, Nebraska.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Howard Smith, and three sons and their wives, Dean and Nancy, Roger and Ellen, and Dale and Judy. She has one grandson, six granddaughters, one great grandson, and one great granddaughter.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 29, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gulfport where friends may visit one hour prior. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery.
