Lt. Col. Robert Henry Endt, Sr. (USAF-Retired), 90, of Ocean Springs died August 7, 2021, peacefully at home in Ocean Springs surrounded by his family.

Mr. Endt was a lifelong resident of Ocean Springs. He graduated from Ocean Springs High in 1947 at the age of 16. After high school graduation, he attended Marion Military Institute and West Point before getting his Master of Mathematics from the University of Mississippi in Oxford. At Ole Miss he was a member of the KA fraternity.

Upon his enlistment in the United States Air Force during the Korean war, he received a direct commission to 2nd Lieutenant. During the Cold War, he had assignments in Morocco, Germany, and Turkey. He served as an Electronics Officer until retiring as a Lt. Colonel.

After returning to Mississippi, Robert taught physics, geometry, algebra, and advanced math at Ocean Springs High School until 1976. He then worked for Litton Data Systems in Pascagoula as Manager of Tactical Systems in the Engineering Department.  He was responsible for the weapons systems on destroyers and amphibious assault ships.

Following his retirement from Litton, he taught mathematics at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Robert also remained active in his community by serving ten years on the Ocean Springs School District’s School Board, where he was Board President for nine of those years.  He also was on the Mary C O’Keefe Museum Commission.

Robert was very active serving our veterans through Post 42 of the American Legion. He has served Post 42 as Commander twice; Adjutant and Finance Officer several times; District Nine Vice Commander twice; District Nine Commander three times; Southern Area Vice Commander and Chef De Gare, Passe Grande Mississippi 40/8 before being elected as Department Commander for the State of Mississippi. Robert was a loyal member of Post 42 serving the American Legion throughout Mississippi.  He has served on the National Commission for Veterans Affairs and has traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with members of Congress to promote American Legion concerns to Mississippi’s congressional delegation.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Anthony Endt, Sr. and Maude Crysell Endt: brothers, Albert Anthony Endt, Jr. and Alvin C. Endt.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Barbara Seymour Endt; daughters, Sandra Endt, Cherri (Tim) Heath, Cindy (Gary) Grant; son, Robert (Kimberly) Endt Jr. Grandchildren; Erica (Jarek) Pawlik, Leigh (Jacob) Walker, Christina (Brady) Hill, Christopher (Tracy) Heath, Mattison Grant, Stori Endt and Sophie Endt. Great- Grand Children; Gracie Hill, Gryden Hill, Bryce Heath and Jake Walker.

At this time, a private service is being held for family only. Since Robert was an educator, in lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to the 40/8 or the America Legion’s respective scholarship funds.

The graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Ocean Springs, MS at 10:00 a.m.
