Mr. Eddie “Ed” Flanagan, age 75, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
Born August 5, 1947, Lt. Eddie Flanagan’s early life was in Baldwin, MS. His family moved to Tuscumbia, AL where he graduated from Deshler High School in 1966.
At the height of the Vietnam War, he joined the US Air Force and served 22 years in the communications field (telephones, radios, and computers). He served at several stateside bases and in Taiwan. One especially memorable base was north of the Arctic Circle in Alaska.
After retirement, MSgt Ed Flanagan and his wife Judy of 41 years settled in Biloxi, MS. He joined the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department and served as a reserve deputy for 24 years and moved up to the rank of LT. He especially liked serving with the funeral details and parade details. He worked for Long Beach Auto Auction and for the D’Iberville Court System, while he was a deputy.
Ed loved to RV camp, joke around, and tinker with mechanical and electrical things. He was a good cook, complements of his mother who was said to be the best cook in all of Colbert County, AL. Ed and Judy had three dogs, Sunshine, Sophie, and Samantha; we loved those little rascals. The Flanagan’s are members of St. Mary Catholic Church in Woolmarket, MS. He was a long-time member of the Mississippi VFW. He enjoyed his hobby as a Ham Radio Operator (WB4YRI) and participated in many emergency activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernis and Dorothy Flanagan; and brother, Tommy Flanagan.
Ed is survived by his loving wife Judy; brother, Robert Flanagan (Pennie); niece, Carrie Cook (Matthew); and their children Cecil and Birdy.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, from 10 – 11 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 8343 Woolmarket Road, Biloxi, MS 39532. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am in the church. A private interment will be held in Biloxi National Cemetery.
