Louis J. Reaux, 81 passed away January 6, 2010, in Gulfport.
Mr. Reaux was a lifelong resident of the gulf coast area. He was born in Biloxi in 1928 and graduated from Gulfport High School in 1948. He was head of the meat department for Swift & Co. and HardyaÌ‚â‚â„¢s Meat for 14 years. He retired in 1989, after 26 years with Life of Georgia Insurance Co. as an agent and sales manager.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 41 years, Mildred S. Reaux, a son Louis J. Reaux, II, and a daughter Tina M. Reaux. He was also preceded in death by his parents Anthony Reaux and Evie H. Reaux Earles, his two brothers and a sister.
Mr. Reaux leaves behind his wife of 19 years, Katie Delenda Reaux, two daughters Sharon Reaux Barnard (John) of Madison MS, Lisa Reaux Jamil (Tim) of Tampa, Fl, stepdaughter Tracy Tucker-Mixon of Long Beach and stepson Daryl Tucker of Olive Branch. He is also survived by three grandchildren, three step grandchildren, one great grandchild and one step sister Maribeth Kirkwood of Texas.
Mr. Reaux will be remembered as a loving husband and father. His friends will remember him as someone they could count on with a helping hand. In death as in life, Mr. ReauxaÌ‚â‚â„¢s wish was to help others. He donated his body to UMC Medical School to help educate young doctors. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A time of gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010, from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Heart Association, 2159 East Pass Road, Gulfport, MS 39507-3802 (www.americanheart.org), the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., Office of Development, 1501 NW 9th Avenue/Bob Hope Road, Miami, Florida 33136-1494 (www.parkinson.org), or the charity of your choice, would be preferred.
