Louis Isidore "Hopper" Meyer, Jr., of New Orleans, LA entered into rest on July 24, 2019 in Diamondhead, MS. He was a devoted husband to Patricia M. Meyer for 30 years.
Louis was the son of the late Louis I. Meyer, Sr. and Mary Roscher Meyer and was born in New Orleans on January 17, 1935. Louis served in the Naval Reserve and retired from the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad after 44 years. Louis was a very giving person who never met a stranger and loved spending time with family and friends. Louis' interests and hobbies were numerous. He loved Life, always had a smile on his face and enjoyed flirting and filling an entire room with his contagious laugh. Louis was fascinated by technology, but loved gardening, cooking, music, dancing, horseback riding and being outdoors. His hobbies were collecting stamps, baseball cards and coins.
Louis is preceded in death by his father, Louis I. Meyer, Sr.; mother, May Roscher Meyer; sister, Claire Meyer Maitre; and brothers, Donald and Douglas Meyer.
He was a wonderful husband to his wife, Patricia Meyer; a great brother and life-long friend to his sister, Janet Meyer Meyaski; and a great father and role-model to his children, Keith (Karen) and their son, Brandon, Rodney (Charmaine) and his daughter, Erica Newton (Joshua), Louis III and his daughter Jenny Orfanello (Lucio), Kirk (Lori) and their daughters, Kristie Showalter (Mark), Shantel Caloian (Carl), and Rachel Myers (Chris), Patsy Russell and her daughter Carrie Scales (Kevin), Judy Knight (Ed) and their sons Brian (Ashley) & Jeff Patureau, Brian Knight (Kim) & daughter Melissa Knight, Charles Hancock (Chandel) and their son Cason and daughter Cadie Gamble (Walker), and Ronnie Boudreaux.
Louis has 22 great-grandchildren: Amanda Leigh, Baylee Claire Schowalter, Blaine Rocha, Brayson Christopher Myers, Breeze Ann Caloian, Cameron Caloian, Carl Caloian, Carmella Orfanello, Carson Patureau, Cayden Joseph Myers, Everly Ruth Myers, Ezra Cole Myers, Isabella Grace Newton, Jax David Schowalter, Joseph Knight, Kaleb Rhody, Lucio Orfanello, Luna Knight, Mason Anthony Newton, Molly Scales, Regan Woodson and Sydney Scales.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Most Holy Trinity Church, 9062 Kiln Delisle Road, Pass Christian, MS on Saturday, August 17 th , 2019 at 12:00 pm. The family will receive friends and have visitation one hour prior to the service. Father Patrick Mockler will celebrate the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or a charity of your choice.
