Louis "Butch" Anthony DiSalvo, Jr., known to his family and friends as Butch, passed away at home on June 25, 2023. He was a dedicated servant of the community and achieved great success in both his career and personal life.
Butch attended Bay St. Louis High School before furthering his education at MGCCC and William Carey College. After completing his studies, he embarked on a career with the Gulfport Police Department from 1975 to 1992, where he served for seventeen years before retiring.
Following his retirement from the police department, Butch joined the US Marshal Service in Court Security in 1995. He brought the same drive and commitment to his work, dedicating himself to ensuring the safety of others within the judicial system. Butch served with integrity until his retirement in 2016.
Butch was not only a dedicated public servant but also a proud veteran of the US Navy. He served from 1966 to 1972 and received an Honorable Discharge for his service. His time in the Navy instilled in him a sense of discipline and honor that he carried throughout his life.
Outside of his professional life, Butch had a passion for dog training, specializing in obedience and protection training. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching firearm safety as well. His love for these hobbies demonstrated both his commitment to excellence and his desire to help others.
Among Butch's proudest accomplishments was the opportunity to work with the US Secret Service for the protection of President Ronald Reagan during the 1980 Gulfport Campaign visit. He also had the honor of serving President George Bush during both of his Gulfport campaign visits. These experiences were some of the highlights of Butch's career, showcasing his exceptional skills as a law enforcement officer.
He was preceded in death by his father Louis A. DiSalvo, Sr; and his son, Christopher DiSalvo.
Butch is survived by his wife of 30 years, Donna C. DiSalvo, who stood by his side throughout his remarkable journey; his mother, Catherine Florek DiSalvo; his children, Lauren Alise DiSalvo, Tony DiSalvo, Sherry Lynn O'Brien, and James DiSalvo; his siblings, John DiSalvo (Leigh), Pat Lesher, Sue DiSalvo, and KC Bates (Larry); his grandchildren, Justin Moran, Lillie Moran, Breyton Moran, Kyle Gibson, Zack DiSalvo, Alicia DiSalvo, Ashley Gruich, and Blake O'Brien; and his great-grandchildren, Austin DiSalvo, Tyler Gruich, Gavin Gruich, Ava Gruich, Aiden Moran, and Bentley Moran.
Louis "Butch" Anthony DiSalvo Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to serving others and making a positive impact on the lives of those around him. His legacy as an exceptional law enforcement officer and devoted family man will endure in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace knowing that he made a difference in this world.
A memorial service will be held at Campground Baptist Church, on Hwy 53 in Gulfport, on July 8, 2023, beginning at 2:00pm.
