Louella Capdepon DeRocha peacefully left her earthly body on September 10, 2021 in Gulfport. Lou was born October 29, 1930 to Anthony and Ella Capdepon in Bay St. Louis, MS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, May Dever, Anita Schwall, Leontine DeRocha, and Zadie Sbardella; her brothers, Joseph Capdepon, Patrick McGinity, Fredrick Capdepon, and A.B. “Bert” Capdepon; and her son, David A. DeRocha.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra D. Gerych (John); her son, Daniel A. DeRocha, Sr. (Darlene); her 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Lou will be remembered for her warm smile, quick wit, spunky attitude, excessive determination, and abounding love. She enjoyed sitting outside, going grocery shopping, eating out, riding along the beach, and hanging out with friends and family. The joy of her life was playing with her youngest great-grandson.
Lou lived independently in Gulf Shore Villas in Biloxi and attended Gulf Shore Day Care until July, when her health required her to become a resident at Gulfport Care Center in Gulfport. Although the move was not supportive of her independent nature, she made the transition with a positive attitude and exceeding determination to make new friends.
Special thanks to the staff at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport and Gulfport Care Center who loved and cared for her as though she was their own “mama”.
A celebration of Louella’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, Long Beach is serving the family.
