Lorette Rouse Compton, age 82 and a resident of Saucier, passed away on May 27, 2011, at home surrounded by her family.
Lorette was born in Success on June 26, 1928. She was the only girl with six brothers born to Fannie Quave and Leslie Rouse.
Lorette graduated from Success School in 1946, and attended Perkinston Junior College where she was selected basketball All-Star in both the 1947 and 1948 State Tournaments. In 2003, Lorette was inducted into the Perkinston Hall of Fame. Her love of sports never faded and she played softball until the age of 70.
Lorette is preceded in death by her parents, Fannie and Leslie Rouse, four brothers, Charles Rouse, killed in World War II, Henry Rouse, Eugene Rouse, and Lawrence Rouse and an infant son, Thomas E. Compton, Jr. She was the devoted wife of 59 years to the late Thomas Edward Compton until his death in July 2010.
She is survived by two brothers, Joe B. Rouse and Jerry Rouse; her five children, Ellen Guidry of Saucier, Patricia Ohlin of Morgan City, LA, Karen Nitkiewicz of Saucier, Brenda Compton of Gulfport, and Thomas Compton of Saucier, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2011, at 2:00pm at Michael Memorial Baptist Church, 15053 John Clark Road in Gulfport, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Poplar Head Cemetery in Saucier.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Michael Memorial Baptist Church, Building Fund, 15053 John Clark Road, Gulfport, MS 39503.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport.
