Lon Elledge, 67. My beloved husband and best friend passed away on February 17, 2021.
He is survived by his wife of almost 14 years, Cathy, also of Gulfport; his son Jason Elledge, 42; daughter-in-law Shannon; grandson Carter, 10; grandaughters Mckayla, 18 and Debra 15, of Pensacola, FL; mother, Willa Elledge of Kennewick, WA; brother Gary of Yakima, WA; sister Charel Elledge of Pasco, WA; many nieces and nephews; and many, many friends and co-workers.
As a father, Lon was intelligent, wise and caring. He was someone worthy of aspiring to be. While he wasn't the most outwardly affectionate person, one look in his eyes showed the depth of love for this family. To quote his grandson Carter, "I'm going to miss him."
Lon was proud to have served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 12 years. He was a Coast Guard Academy Graduate and also possessed a Master's Degree in Ocean Engineering from the University of Rhode Island.
Lon has been employed by CH2M for the past 13 years as a project and program manager. His projects included the Restoration of the Port of Gulfport, the Port of Anchorage, New Orleans Water Department and most recently, the expansion of the Port of Long Beach, CA. Before moving to Gulfport in 2010, one of his last jobs was as project manager for Vision 2000 at the Port of Oakland, CA. As a marine engineer, Lon was asked to consult with USAID on a project following the horrific tsunami in Bande Ache, Indonesia. He considered it an honor to be a part of this project and a highlight of his career. Lon also worked with several other engineering firms in the Bay Area before joining CH in 2008.
Lon was an active member of the Bay Area Whaleboat Racing Association as both a Coxswain and President of the Association. His favorite race each year was "Bridge to Bridge", starting under the Golden Gate Bridge along a dicey course ending at the Oakland Bay Bridge. He was also an Eagle Scout.
Lon loved the outdoors, especially camping in our new RPod Travel Trailer. And he loved to travel!
A celebration of Lon's life will take place mid to late April at a friend's home in Bay St. Louis, MS. Details will be provided as soon as they are available.
Memorial donations may be made in Lon's name to the Memorial Hospital Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 940, Gulfport, MS 39502 or online at memorialhospitalfoundation.com
