Mrs. Lois Jeanette Tumlin, age 90, of Long Beach, MS, passed away Monday, October 4, 2021, in Mobile, AL.
Born in Offerman, GA on July 12, 1931, to Richard “Shellie” Thornton and Myrtle Pearl Milligan Thornton, Mrs. Tumlin grew up with her 12 siblings on Thornton Farms in Offerman. She married the love of her life, Mr. George Tumlin, III, and they eventually made Long Beach, MS, their home. Lois loved the Lord and cared deeply for her family whom she always put first. She had a witty sense of humor and a penchant for designer clothing and shoes. She was a fantastic cook and was well known amongst family and friends for her country cooking – especially her fried chicken. Her children and grandchildren relished in her stories of growing up on a large farm with 12 siblings and will pass these stories on for generations to come.
Mrs. Tumlin was preceded in death by her parents, the late Richard Shellie and Myrtle Pearl Milligan Thornton, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Tumlin, III; her daughter, India Tumlin Pique; her son-in-law, Michael Sheffield; two sisters, Elouise Fleming and Shirley Ann Carper; and by five brothers – Eugene Thornton, Robert Thornton, J.T. Thornton, Harold “Preacher” Thornton, and Richard Shellie “Bosey” Thornton, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Sheffield, of Mobile, AL; her grandchildren – Amanda Levens (Jay) of Long Beach, MS, Christina Clay (Gary) of Mobile, AL, Michael Sheffield (Kristy) of D’Iberville, MS, Steven Pique (Jennifer) of Las Vegas, NV, and Kelli Pique of Long Beach, MS; her great grandchildren – Macie Buza, Ava Levens, Gavin Clay, Carter Pique, Jake Pique, Julia Sheffield, and Everett Sheffield; sisters – Sarah Golden of Spring, TX, Jewel (Bob) Dunnigan of Florahome, FL, Loretta (Will) Blocker of Mooresville, NC, and Bonnie (Bud) Dubberly of Winston, GA; and a brother, Wayne (Bobbie) Thornton of Jacksonville, FL.
Services for Mrs. Tumlin will be held Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach, MS. Visitation for friends and family will take place from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be immediately following services in the Evergreen Garden Cemetery, Gulfport, MS.
