Lois Woodcock Lawrence, age 84, a lifelong resident of Long Beach, passed away on July 25, 2011 in Gulfport.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Warren M. Lawrence; her parents, Addie and Avington Woodcock; five brothers, Emile Woodcock, Odus Woodcock, Leslie Woodcock, Harold Woodcock, and Leroy Woodcock; and one sister, Lillian Stevens.
Lois is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Collins and her husband, Dayton, of Pass Christian and Lyra W. Allen of Long Beach; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; great great nieces and nephews; and was known as ""Aunt Lois"" to many.
Lois was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church, Long Beach, where she had played the piano and organ since her childhood. She taught Sunday School and wrote and directed Christmas programs at the church.
For the past 52 years, Lois has been the owner and operator of Lois' Flower Shop in Long Beach. Lois opened the flower shop in August of 1959 and the first week she was open, she had to work on her Daddy's funeral making her feel heartfelt sympathy for her customers always. Her business is the oldest business with the original owner in Long Beach. The city of Long Beach proclaimed the ""Lois Lawrence Day"" on the 30th anniversary of Lois' Flower Shop and she received a citation of recognition from the Long Beach Historical Society on her 50th anniversary. After hurricane Camille, her flower shop phone worked! Anyone could make all of the calls they needed whether local or long distance. In 2003, she was honored as Person of the Week by WLOX. She was honored with a lifetime season ticket to Long Beach High School Football games. Lois had a wall of lifetime achievements that were swept away by Katrina.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Rd, Long Beach. The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church, Long Beach. Burial will follow at Allen Cemetery.
