Linda Switzer
January 29, 1947 — April 18, 2018
Linda Allison Switzer of Gulfport, MS went to our loving Lord on April 18, 2018 after a brief illness. Mrs. Switzer was born in Wiggins, MS Jan. 29, 1947 to Richard M. Allison Sr. and Ruby Laird Allison, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Gilbert N. Switzer; two daughters, Melinda (Mark) DeFreece of Whitesboro, TX and Whitley Switzer (Steve Kanter) of Gulfport, MS; granddaughter, Stevie Kanter of Gulfport and Kyle DeFreece of Gainsville, TX; her brother, Richard (Rick) M. Allison Jr. of Wiggins, MS; and her sister, Elaine Allison Ward of Clinton, MS. She also has many nieces and nephews she dearly adored.
Mrs. Switzer received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. She had been in education for more than 30 years and received many awards during that time. She retired in 2002 from MGCCC, Jackson County Campus as Dean of Student Services.
She became a member of Pet Partners in 2009 with her beloved fur baby, Tex. She served as secretary on their board in 2011.
Mrs. Switzer was an accomplished pianist and organist who loved music. She served as organist for Wiggins First Baptist Church and Trinity Episcopal in Pass Christian, MS.
Mrs. Switzer loved to travel with her husband when he judged quarter horse shows or had meetings with the American Quarter Horse Association. This took them all over the United States, Central and South America and abroad.
Linda always put everyone else's needs before her own. She was always there with kind words and a helping hand. She was loved and admired by so many people and was a wonderful role model.
Her family thanks so many involved in her care at Lakeview Rehabilitation Center, Gulfport Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph Hospice.
Visitation will be Friday, April, 20, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church, 17430 Landon Rd., Gulfport, MS. A celebration of Linda's life will be on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 2:00 PM with visitation from 12:00 PM until the service at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport, MS. Interment will be at the Coalville Cemetery.
