On March 13th, Linda Faye Dyche Bishop, surrounded by her family, passed away at the age of 74. Linda (affectionally known as Memaw or Tutu) fought a courageous battle with colon cancer for 3 years. Flying all over the U.S., experimental trial after experimental trial she defied many Doctors’ diagnoses as she fought her battle with this disease. Linda was one tough lady.
Linda was born February 23, 1946 in Grenada, MS to W.E. (Son) & Pearl Dyche. While attending Delta State University she met her husband, John Bishop Sr. After marriage they moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast where they raised 5 children (Amy, Joseph, James, Johnny Jr. & Jediah). Linda & John co-founded Bishop Insurance Company/Brokers which they started in the 1970’s in Pascagoula, MS. Life took her all over the Mississippi Gulf Coast where she ultimately ended up in Pass Christian, MS where Linda still has an office.
Linda enjoyed cooking, gardening and running her business, Bishop Insurance Brokers Inc. Linda also adored her many grandchildren. Those fortunate enough to know her got a kick out of her 4’11” feisty self.
She leaves behind her Mother, Pearl Dyche (Gore Springs, MS), her brother, Joe Dyche (Gore Springs, MS) her daughter, Amy Bishop-Coakley (Chris Coakley) of Pascagoula, MS, sons, Joseph Bishop Sr. of Pass Christian, MS, James Bishop (Julissa) of Biloxi, MS and Jediah Bishop (Clare) of Pass Christian, MS. 11 grandchildren, Joseph Bishop Jr., Jaime Bishop, Jacob Bishop, Katie Coakley, Lauren Coakley, Ryan Bishop, Haleigh Bishop, Bailey Bishop, Josh Bishop, Declan Bishop and Boden Bishop. Brother-In-Laws, Jim Bishop (Seattle, WA), Dick Asche (Seattle, WA) and Mike Kendrick (Phoenix, AZ). In addition to numerous nieces and nephews, many great friends, clients and her beloved dog Titus (Ratty Roo).
She is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, John A. Bishop Sr., her son, Johnny A. Bishop Jr., her father, W.E. (Son) Dyche, her granddaughter, Brooke Bishop, her sister, Alice Kendrick, her sister-in-law, Helen Asche, her mother-in-law, Mary Ellen Slattery Bishop and father-in-law Earl Cecil Bishop.
Even though it is hard to lose the Bishop family’s matriarch we are at peace knowing that she will no longer be in any more pain or suffering. The family is comforted by knowing she is with her husband, John and her son, Johnny. We must laugh knowing that Johnny is probably so excited to show his mother around heaven. We can hear it now…. mom look at this, mom look at that……
