Lillie Mae Johnson Copeland, age 77, of Mobile, formerly of Escatawpa, passed away on May 3, 2020, in Mobile.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Byrd Copeland; her parents, Rhanel Quintiss Johnson and Ramie Faye Johnson; her brothers, Qunitiss “Sonny” Johnson, Jimmy Johnson, Billy Wayne Johnson, and Bobby Johnson; her sisters, Betty Ann Johnson Killingsworth, and Linda Sue Johnson.
Mrs. Copeland is survived by her 2 children, Ginger Faye Copeland and David Nicolas (Maria) Copeland; 2 siblings, Dortha Johnson Saley (Ken) and Wilbur Dale Johnson (Barbara); 7 grandchildren, Dolan Jeremy Gerber, Aidan William Gerber, David Nicholas Copeland, II, Suzette Nicole Copeland, Justin Copeland, Alexander William Copeland, and Javier Jaspe; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins she loved and adored; and she had a special place in her heart for her niece, Donna Johnson Rivers and her special friends, George Pierce and Karen Ledkins.
She was born in Pascagoula and was a longtime resident of Escatawpa before moving to Mobile. She was a graduate of Pascagoula High School and MGCCC where she received a nursing degree. Mrs. Copeland retired from Singing River Hospital after many years of service as a nurse. Until recently, she had a passion for bowling and was a member of several leagues. She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, shopping with her friends, and spending time outdoors. She was a current member of University Church of Christ in Mobile and was a longtime member of Four Mile Creek Baptist Church in Escatawpa.
The family would like to thank all of their family and friends who have prayed and given support during her battle with COVID-19. She was such a special, beautiful gem in so many people’s lives. We will love you forever!
