Lillian Allen Brown Torrey was born May 31, 1937, in Shiloh, Alabama and passed away at home with family on March 28, 2023, in Fairhope, Alabama.
Growing up in Shiloh, she graduated from Sweetwater High School and later attended the University of Alabama. After relocating to her beloved New Orleans, Lillian graduated from Loyola University. She lived many adventurous years in the French Quarter and worked at Touro Infirmary before being employed by Hollister, Incorporated. Lillian quickly rose the corporate ladder always with highest honors and retired as Southeastern Sales Manager. She was esteemed by her sales force and corporate officers throughout her tenure with Hollister.
After their marriage, Lillian and Randy spent many happy years traveling and entertaining friends while living in Ponte Vedra and Blue Mountain Beach, Florida and the French Quarter in New Orleans. They eventually settled in Fairhope, Alabama.
Lillian was an avid reader, expert card player, grand hostess, extensive traveler and great friend to so many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Collins Brown, Sr. and Lillian Norwood Brown; brothers, George Collins Brown, Jr., Hunter Norwood Brown, Gordon McGill Brown, and Little Berry Norphlet Brown; sister, Katie Agee Webb; and great nephews, Matthew Stinson Loper, Keaton Joseph Turnipseed and Shawn Joseph Brown.
Lillian is survived by her husband, Randall Ford Torrey; stepson, Ford Torrey (Genevieve); stepdaughter, Debra Torrey (Mark); sister, Emma Margaret Baty; nieces, Barbara Brown Keegan, Anne Brown Broadfoot, June Carol Adams (Michael), and Linda Kay Webb; nephews, Gordon Brown, Jr. (Vicki) and Van Baty, Jr (Jan); step granddaughters, Samantha, Violet and Alli Torrey; and many loving great nieces and nephews.
Many thanks to Stephanie who cared for Mrs. Torrey with true love and Traci who went above and beyond in making sure she received the very best care possible.
Lillian Allen will go home to rest in Laurel Cemetery, Shiloh, Alabama. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 11:30 am. Family and friends will gather at 11:00 am at Walmart, 34301 State Route 13 (Hwy 43), Thomasville, AL, where the procession to the cemetery will begin.
Directions: take Hwy 43 North from Thomasville, go through Dixons Mills, turn right on County Road 30 until you reach County Road 73 (Fire Tower Road) and then turn right on County Road 73. Go roughly one mile and look for the cemetery on the right hand side of road off County Road 73.
