Leslie Homer Martin, Jr., age 87, of Gulfport, passed away on February 14, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Homer Martin and Addie Cooper Martin; his first wife, Hazel F. Martin; and a brother, Gerald Martin.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lady Dell Mechatto Martin; 4 children, Debbie Martin Thrash (Gary), Leslie Homer Martin, III (Juanita), Kim McCoy (Carey), and Tom Ashworth (Erin); a brother, Randolph Martin; 8 grandchildren, Leslie Thrash Henson (Matt), Adam F. Thrash (Carmen), Spencer Griffin Ganz (Nate), Talon Griffin, Daniel Reed Miller (Brynne), Lady Kendall Hanberry (David), Frankie Ashworth, and Nicholas Ashworth; 8 great-granddchildren, Lillie and Parker Henson, Carmen Claire, and Hazel Thrash, Layla Ganz, Miller and John David Hanberry; special friends, Nancy and James Creel who became a part of his extended family; and many nieces and other relatives.
Mr. Martin was a native of Belzoni, MS and has lived in Gulfport for 5 years.  He was a graduate of Silver City School in Silver City, MS, Marion Military Institute, Marion, AL and after 1 year, returned home to farm due to his father's illness.  He was a successful cotton farmer for over 40 years.  He enjoyed traveling in his RV for over 20 years - traveling all over the beautiful United States, Canada, New Foundland, and Labrador.  He was a deacon and treasurer at First Presbyterian Church, Belzoni, for many years.
He was elected to the Board of Directors of Guaranty Bank and Trust Company, Belzoni, MS in 1972 and served as an active director for over 27 years until his retirement.  He also served on the board of directors of the bank's holding company, Guaranty Capital Corporation.  After his retirement, Mr. Martin was elected Director Emeritus in an honorary, advisory position.  He served on the advisory board of the Wister Gardens Foundation from its inception.  He served on the Humphreys County ASCS for several years and was an original participant in the Gossym Comax Program at Mississippi State University.  He was a member of the Cotton Council, Delta Council, Farm Bureau Federation, and the Beltwide Cotton Council.
The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice and to Oxford Home Health for the loving care of Homer and also to First Presbyterian Church for having his last service and communion at his home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Belzoni Animal Rescue Kennel, P.O. Box 1015, Belzoni, MS 39038, The Nourshing Place, P.O. Box 7785, Gulfport, MS 39502, First Presbyterian Church, 10885 O'Neal Road, Gulfport, MS 39503.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 26, 2018, from 12 pm - 2 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport.  A memorial service will be at 2 pm in the chapel.
