Leone Adams Johnson

Leone Adams Johnson of Pass Christian passed away on June 7, 2012. She was a native of Arkadelphia, Arkansas and moved to New Orleans in 1930 where she lived for forty years until moving to Pass Christian permanently in 1973. She graduated from Sophie B Wright High School, New Orleans and attended Newcomb College. Leone was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Noel Adams. Her father was a prominent grain miller until the depression, and then a railroad executive. She attended Trinity Episcopal Church in Pass Christian. She was active in civic affairs and was a former member of the Historical Society of Pass Christian, the Pass Christian Yacht Club and the Fortnightly Book Club. She was a professional model into her eighties. Her greatest talent was in bringing joy to the people around her. She loved her family and her many friends, and was the life of every party she attended. Her love of life, and grace and charm were infectious. They served as an example to those around her to enjoy every golden moment of life. Her grandmother name was ""Pretty"" and she lived up to this name until the day she died. She was well versed in the art of entertaining, enjoyed fishing with her husband and family of 4 boys, and loved traveling to New York to see Broadway shows. She will be dearly missed.
Leone was predeceased in death by her husband, Dr. C. Gordon Johnson in 1983, and by her son, Lawrence Noel Johnson (Marion). She is survived by her sons, C. Gordon Johnson, Jr. (Marda), Ronald Adams Johnson (Cheryl), and Gerald Carter Johnson (Sally). ""Pretty"" is also survived by three nephews and a niece, by her nine grandchildren, Tracey Noel Johnson, Tina Adams Johnson, Chapman G. Johnson, III (Mary Ashley), Elise Leone Johnson, L. Noel Johnson, Jr. (Maria), Todd Adams Johnson (Shauna), Julienne Fouche Johnson, G. Carter Johnson, Jr. (Keri), Virginia Johnson Gleason (Edward), and by thirteen great grandchildren. Special thanks are expressed to Christine Lucas for her kindness, attention and love. Thanks also goes to Dr Howard Russell for his wonderful medical care through the years.
A private family graveside service will be held at Live Oak Cemetery, Pass Christian, on Monday, June 18 at 3:00 p.m. Friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life at the home of her son, Jerry, starting at 4:00 p.m. Please do not send flowers.
