Leona Marie Benfield

Leona Marie Benfield, age 68, of Gulfport, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017.
She was born in Biloxi to Doug and Louise Stevenson. She graduated from Biloxi High School in 1966 and obtained her Nursing Degree shortly thereafter. Her career began at Howard Memorial Hospital, then Gulf Coast Community Hospital, and after 44 years of nursing, she retired from Memorial Hospital at Gulfport where she was an LPN. She was a member of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Dart Association for over 30 years and served as Captain of the Barracuda Dart Team. Leona loved traveling and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brother-in-law's; two nephews; and two great nephews.
She is survived by her son, William Mike (Alicia) Benfield of Gulfport; companion, Randy Winchell of Gulfport; siblings, Alvin (Ann), Sharon (Gary), Mary Ann (Mike), Lou Anna, Julie, Melanie (David), Johnnie Lynn; grandchildren, Sebastien Gabriel, Hayden Dean, and Alissa Tye; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at 7:00 p.m.
