Lena Mae Carroll age 76, a native of Grantham, North Carolina and longtime resident of Ocean Springs, MS, passed away in Pascagoula, MS on September 20, 2021.
Lena worked for daycares the better part of her life. She loved children. She loved teaching them and caring for them and watching them grow up. After working in the daycare industry she went on to work in the St. Martin East Cafeteria for many years so she could still see the children daily. After retirement, she enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, going out to eat and listening to country music, especially Trace Adkins. She saw him in concert numerous times. Lena also enjoyed watching WWE Shopping network, going to the casinos and making new friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lois Thompson; by her brother, Johnny Thompson; and her best friend, Brenda Sumrall.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Conrad “Rick” Carroll; and her two children, Cindy Baughman (Toby), and Richie Carroll; her siblings, Arlene Wade (Keith), Jean Sills (Allen), Luby Thompson (Janet), Polly Hall (David), Brenda Thompson, Nancy Outlaw (Bobby); her grandchildren, Brooke Lewis (Chris), Christopher Baughman (Julia), Christina Carroll, Lauren Carroll, Zarion Carroll; nine great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Hazel Grace, Aspen, Ayla, Jayson, Justin Jr., Kegan, Kallie, and Kahlil; numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Lena lived too and loved to take care of her family. She was smart and sassy, and she never met a stranger. She was an amazing, loving, caring , strong independent woman. She was the beautiful mixture of it all. Everyone who knew her will have wonderful fond memories of her. Her family always will.
Thank you to the Ocean Springs Cancer Center for their great care over the years and for touching our hearts.
