Lela Mae Johnson, age 91 of Diamondhead, MS entered in her heavenly Home May 23, 2008.
For the last few years, Lela was a resident of Woodland Village Nursing Home in Diamondhead, MS. Prior to Katrina, she lived at Dunbar Nursing Home in Bay St. Louis, MS.
She was born in Loris, South Carolina, April 30, 1917. She lived most of her adult life in Charleston, South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dalles E. Johnson; her sons Howard, Wallace and Burnie Frierson; a brother Edward Phipps; three sisters, Dizzy Livingston, Alda Hanna and Bertie McDade.
She is survived by her son Louis L. Frierson of Diamondhead, MS; a brothers T.P. Phipps of Edgefield, SC and Paul Phipps of Lyman, SC; a stepdaughter Claudia Daurhty of Jewitt City, Conn; three grandchildren, Wallace Gene Frierson, Julia Frierson, and Lina Louise Follo all of Columbia, SC; and five great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston, SC at 2p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2008. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Diabetic Foundation, at P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 2216-7023 or www.diabetes.org.
