Lawrence Christopher “Chris” Stewart, age 63 of Gulfport, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence “Burlan” Stewart (USAF Retired); and his sister, Mary Anne Stewart.
Chris is survived by his wife of 35 years, Alice Newman Stewart; his mother, Anna Stewart; his children, Timothy Arthur Stewart and Donald Joseph “Joey” Stewart; and his siblings, Harold Douglas Stewart, Timothy Lavelle Stewart, and Anthony M. Stewart; and several nieces and nephews.
Prior to his illness, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and Harrison County Sand Beach Commission. Earlier in his career, he was a professional photographer and continued for enjoyment through his life.
Through military travels with his family as a teenager, he developed a passion for surfing. Fishing and photography were two of his favorite activities. Chris was also a gun enthusiast and prior to his illness, enjoyed the sport with his sons, Timothy and Joey. He enjoyed football, filming and photographing birds and squirrels. He was also a major history buff. He loved collecting things of value, especially signed photographs of military officers and Presidents. Chris loved his country and always flew the American and Mississippi State flags at his home.
Alice, Timothy, and Joey would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Azar, Jack Langlinais, R.N., and the rest of the staff at Memorial Hospital for their kind words and guidance during this very difficult time. Thanks are also extended to the staff at St. Joseph Hospice. Special thanks to Johnie Asher for her help at home during our absence. Chris was never left alone.
Chris’s family would like to also extend heartfelt appreciation to all friends who constantly asked about him throughout his long illness.
