To his family he was Allen, to his friends he was Larry, and to his work friends he was YoYo. He spent his early years at the Mississippi School for the Deaf before attending Long Beach High School. He spent much of his adult life in Houston, TX before returning to the coast 7 years ago.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Allen Penton, Sr., his maternal grandparents, Lugenia Netto Cuevas Burkhart and Romar J. Cuevas, Sr., his stepfather, William R. Hickman, his favorite uncle Romar J. "Buddy" Cuevas, his niece Amy Walters, and a brother-in-law Robert Wallace, Sr.

Allen spent much of his career at Excalibur Exhibits, which gave him the opportunity to travel the world setting up for major events and trade shows. When he was home, he loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, bringing them toys from his travels and instilling in them a life-long love of board games. When he moved back home, he took a special interest in his great nieces and nephews. He passed along his love of muscle cars by growing their Hot Wheels collections and he was never one to shy away from a Nerf gun battle.

He loved watching all sports, especially NASCAR and his beloved New Orleans Saints. He enjoyed grilling and boiling crawfish for his friends while watching the games together.
