Larry Hughes

April 19, 1941 — January 31, 2020

Larry Leon Hughes, age 78 and a resident of Pass Christian, was born April 19, 1941 and passed away on Friday, January 31, 2020 peaceably in his home.

He was preceded in death by wife, Margie Lynn Hughes; parents, Otho and Ola Hughes; and twin daughters, Kellie and Nicole.   He is survived by beloved niece/caregiver, Stacy Wells (Robbie); stepchildren, Rachel Campbell (Trey), Brandi Traylor (Joey), Phillip Lawing (Michelle) and Tim Lawing (Jennifer); Son, Steve Hughes; Daughter; Kenya Talley; and Brother, Joe Hughes of Polkville, MS; his grandchildren are Sarah Stewart (AJ), Lindsey Campbell; Addison, Bristol & Easton Traylor; Sam & Shelby Lawing; Grace & Haleigh Lawing; nephew, Rhesie Hughes (Stacey); Niece, Carla Walker; and a multitude of great nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Larry was a native of Polkville, MS, but has been a resident of Pass Christian for around 25 years.  He completed high school and also some college.  Larry served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 - 1964. He was self-employed, an architect and builder.  One of his great achievements is the largest wooden structure in the world which is located on the Kirkland Air Force Base, NM. It is called the Trestle Project. He also helped rebuild homes on the coast after Katrina. Larry loved dancing, fishing, and storytelling.  The family would like to thank you for all the prayers and support during this time.  In lieu of flowers, a card with a memory/thought included would be appreciated.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2020 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach, MS. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 7, 2020 in the funeral home chapel, where visitation will be held beginning at 9:30 a.m.   Interment with military honors will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.
