Lany Kelly, age 91, of Biloxi, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.
Mrs. Kelly was born in Greenville, MS in 1930. She attended Greenville High School and graduated from Co-Lin Jr. College High School in Wesson, MS.
She moved to Biloxi, MS, in 1954. She attended the Shorthand and Typing School in Gulfport. She started working at Keesler AFB in 1956 as a secretary and retired after 34 years.
She went to work for the Grand Casino in Biloxi and worked for 6 ½ years as a Grand Advantage Clerk. She started volunteering at Gulf Cast Medical Center as a member of the Sunshine Guild. When the hospital closed, she transferred to the Biloxi Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She served as secretary, treasurer, and buyer/manager of the gift shop.
She was a dance member of the Swinging Starlets for over 29 years. The Starlets is a senior dance group that originated at Gulf Coast Medical Center in 1992. The group performed at nursing homes, church functions, Ohr Festival, Cruising the Coast, at the VA, and other miscellaneous senior gatherings. The group was also invited to perform in Jackson for the MS Hospital Association at their annual award ceremony.
She was an avid Saints fan and loved to travel with the BancorpSouth Lively Ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Irvin L. Kelly, Jr.; one son, Patrick Darrow; three brothers, Lonnie, Lawrence and Troy Gibbons; and her sister, Anne Miller.
Survivors include her three daughters, Terri Johnson (Jim) of Hattiesburg, Karen Tiblier (Michael) of Biloxi, and Shannon Harpin (Alain) of Biloxi; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Graveside Service on Friday, September 30, 2022. The procession will leave at 1:00 p.m. from Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi. The Graveside Service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery. Following the graveside service, there will be a Celebration of Life Reception at the First Presbyterian Church of Biloxi, 1340 Beach Blvd., Biloxi.
