LaNora Byrd Fillius was born in Larue, MS on April 13, 1023, and died on July 2, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Fillius; her parents, John Byrd and Lou Ella; and her brothers, John and Verlon.
She is survived by her children, Jack Fillius and his wife, Charlotte of Ft. Walton Beach, Lynn Foster of Gulfport and Joan Seymour of Long Beach; grandchildren, Cindy Fillius and Shannon Santa Ana; and great-grandchildren, Julie Gray and Ashlynn Pryor.
She was a graduate of Perkinston Jr. College and served as a secretary at Gulfport Field during WWII. She then later became the secretary to Congressman William Colmer in Washington D.C., where she met her loving husband. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She served in a variety of positions in the Methodist church, including Sunday school teacher and past president of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Gulfport Garden Club. She volunteered at Feed My Sheep and the Youth Court. She loved the outside and gardening, whether it was flowers or vegetables. She also loved to cook for family and friends.
Services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 5. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary.
